For Photographers

Dear colleague:

I love helping out fellow photographers, but it has come to point that I receive several emails a day from other photographers. These emails vary with questions about cameras/lenses, when am I hosting my next workshop, general advice and also plenty of offers to ‘carry my bag’. As much as would love to I simply DO NOT have the time to personally answer every email. Please don’t be offended if you are ignored, I promise you it’s nothing personal;)

Next workshop:
I unfortunately don’t have any workshops planned in the near future, but keep an eye on the blog and Facebook page for any future announcements.

Assisting/carrying my bag on a shoot:
I’m so sorry but I can’t let you carry my bag – I’ll try and explain with an example: Imagine arriving at your hairdresser for your monthly trim + blowdry and he’s got someone there ‘very keen to get into the industry and wanting to learn more’. Now imagine him explaining all his various techniques to this person as he’s working on your hairdo and every now and again he’ll let this person take a snip or two to ‘gain some experience’….. I can’t imagine you’ll be very happy about this…. you are paying him do his job, to concentrate on what he’s doing and not to make a stuff-up. Just like the hairdresser I’m getting paid to do my job and it’s only fair that I focus all my energy and concentration on doing it to the best of my ability.

Yes, I do make use of assistants, but they are experienced second shooters and I’m paying them a rate well above the industry standard. No, I don’t need anyone at the moment…. sorry:-(

Teaching:
Although I haven’t really advertised it, I’ve been doing 1-on-1 sessions with great success for a while now. Because of this success I’ve decided to offer these sessions in a slightly more structured form. So… what is included? Well basically I get to spend a whole day with you and you can ask me pretty much whatever you want to. One great advantage over a workshop is that we can concentrate on the areas that feel you need some guidance/advice. Some of the stuff that I’ve covered in past sessions included things like off camera flash; pricing; photo critique & advice; metering modes; editing (Lightroom/Photoshop); composition; website; SEO…. seriously, anything goes! And I promise you I don’t keep any secrets.

Costs:
1-on-1 session: R3 500
2-on-1 session (you + a friend): R2800 per person
3-on-1 session (you + 2 friends): R2300 per person
*subject to my availability

Please get in touch should you be interested in doing a session.
